Dario has continued the search for defensive re-enforcements this week having twice failed to bring in new blood in the last couple of weeks.

Last month the club had an offer to take a Premier League defender on loan turned down, with the un-named player’s club naming him on their team’s bench that week. Injury to a loan target then scuppered Dario’s attempts to in any cover before the away trip to Bury.

Having taken one point from six February games and conceding a staggering 17 goals in that time, Dario is determined to sure up his defence and ensure a better March, with bottom four sides in Burton and Macclesfield coming up as opponents this week.

Speaking to the official website today, Dario says that he has asked for an update on the injured defender we failed to sign last week and has also asked about a team mate of the un-named defender.

‘We have checked on his fitness and have also placed a phone call with the same club about someone else.

‘It is a name that has been mentioned to us and we’ll have to see if he is available. If he is then it is something we will follow up.’

However, Dario is still not ruling out offering 34 year old Ashley Westwood a chance to return to the club. Westwood, who made over 100 appearances for the club in the mid-90’s, has been training with the club for the last couple of weeks the hope to prove he’s still up to it.

‘Ashley is doing fine and is still with us. He is fit and has been sharp in training.

‘I am not totally ruling out signing him. We would need to be sure because we cannot have an extra central defender in the dressing room just for the sake of it.

I’m not sure signing a 34 year old recently released from a mid-table Conference side will quite satisfy fans or actually improve our Goals Against ratio.
