Beckles Joins Leyton Orient

|

Leyton Orient have confirmed the signing of Omar Beckles after the defender turned down a new contract with Crewe Alexandra. He joins the O’s on a 2-year deal when his deal with the Alex expires at the end of the month and is their second signing of the summer after they signed midfielder Darren Pratley from Charlton Athletic.

Beckles, 29, started his career with Millwall before also playing for Jerez Industrial, Boreham Wood, Kettering Town, Billericay, Histon, Margate, AFC Hornchurch, St. Albans City, Aldershot Town, Accrington Stanley and Shrewsbury Town. He joined the Alex last summer and made 43 appearances last season, scoring in the Alex’s 2-0 win at home to Accrington Stanley in February.

What are Orient getting from the signing?

They are getting a defender that is a really good option for League 2 that has played in League 1 for the last few years for both Shrewsbury and the Alex. He’s someone who is better as a physical defender rather than coming out with the ball and his performances will be determined by how he starts games – he can have really bad games if he makes an early mistake but can also be one of your better performers in your side if he doesn’t.
