Defender Anthony Stewart has joined Crewe Alexandra from Wycombe Wanderers on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old centre-back already appeared twice for the Railwaymen during a recent loan spell at Gresty Road.

Stewart previously turned down a new deal with Wycombe last summer but they are eligible for a small fee having retained his registration.

Crewe also recently extended the loans of experienced Swansea City centre-back Alan Tate and Manchester City youngster Greg Leigh for the remainder of the campaign.

Manager Steve Davis also hopes to arrange longer stays for Stoke City midfielder Jamie Ness and Leeds United striker Nicky Ajose.

Meanwhile, centre-back Harry Davis is close to agreeing a new contract but skipper Matt Tootle hasn’t yet been offered fresh terms.
