Defender Adam Dugdale says Crewe Alexandra will be taking high levels of confidence from their pre-season campaign.

The 24-year-old headed the winner against Barnsley last night to leave Alex unbeaten in almost a dozen friendly encounters over recent weeks.

While conceding that results before the big kick-off are not always particularly relevant, Dugdale still believes they should be taken into account.

“It is looking good so far but there is a long way to go,” he told the Crewe Chronicle. “I just can’t see us getting beaten at the minute and that’s what we want to take into the season.

“We just can’t wait for the league to start,” he added. “We are all excited and we think we will do alright.”
