Recovering defender Gregor Robertson reckons Crewe Alexandra can mount a sustained challenge towards the play-offs this season.

“I think there was a tinge of disappointment amongst the lads that we never quite got in there” – Gregor Robertson

The addition of leading names such as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bristol City, plus promotions for Rotherham United, Bradford City and Alex’s big local rivals Port Vale, is sure to mean a really competitive league this season.

However, Robertson still believes his Crewe side can go closer this time after being around the edges of the top group last term.

“I think there was a tinge of disappointment amongst the lads that we were in and around the play-offs last season but never quite got in there,” he admitted to Crewe’s official website. “I don’t see any reason why we can’t progress even though it will be tough. A lot of the lads hadn’t even played at L1 last season but they have that experience under their belt now.”
