Manager Steve Davis refuses to place too much emphasis on Crewe Alexandra’s poor opening day record.

“It’s up to us to change it and make things work” – Steve Davis

The Railwaymen haven’t won away on the first day since triumphing 2-1 at York City in 1994 – and are this time visiting League One newcomers Fleetwood Town.

They are indeed also without a home win from the first weekend since overcoming Brighton back in 2007.

“This year we’ve done a different pre-season, hopefully it has an impact,” Davis told BBC Radio Stoke. “It won’t go on forever.

“The record’s long before my time,” he stressed. “It’s up to us to change it and make things work. You have to turn these sort of bad records around yourself.”
