Manager Steve Davis remains hopeful that young defender Kelvin Mellor will agree to re-sign for Crewe Alexandra.

Mellor is currently receiving treatment on an ankle injury but Davis believes the 21-year-old will be ready for the start of the new season if he decides to sign.

However, should Mellor elect not to, Alex would be entitled to compensation for his services given his age, although Davis would naturally prefer him to continue his development at Gresty Road.

“Kelvin is still receiving treatment for his ankle and is on course to be available for the start of the season,” he confirmed to Alex’s official website. “He hasn’t spoken to me yet about his contract but hopefully we can get something sorted out with him.”
