Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis believes that if a serious bid does come in for skipper Luke Murphy – it will probably arrive in August.

“Something, I’m sure, will happen over the pre-season” – Steve Davis

That was the scenario last season as his predecessor in the role, Ashley Westwood, completed a move into the Premiership with Aston Villa.

Indeed the Villans have regularly been linked with Murphy over recent months but there has been no real move in that direction from them or anybody thus far.

“There have been just a couple of enquiries but nothing really solid,” Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “I think it’ll be an August thing like it was with Westy. Something, I’m sure, will happen over the pre-season.”

Davis says there certainly won’t be any problems regarding his trusty captain should no move actually materialise.

“He’s fine with that, he’s patient and he’ll go when the time is right and to the right place,” he added.
