Manager Steve Davis is calling for more consistency from his Crewe Alexandra side following their weekend defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

“They’re not consistent enough, which could be down to that little bit of quality” – Steve Davis

The visitors suffered a first loss in four games courtesy of Luke Summerfield’s header just before the break. That followed successive league wins over Doncaster Rovers and Colchester United after a comfortable FA Cup triumph against Wycombe Wanderers.

“They’ve shown glimpses but not enough,” Davis told BBC Radio Stoke. “It’s just inconsistency. They’re not consistent enough, which could be down to that little bit of quality, the step-up that some of them have had to make which may take a little longer than we’d hoped.

“But we’ve got to work harder at improving that,” he continued. “We’ve got to get better and the only way to do that is practise, which is why we’ve had them in today shooting and crossing for 90 minutes.”

The Alex visit high-flying Sheffield United tomorrow evening when they are likely to come up against their former striker Shaun Miller, who netted twice in the Blades’ weekend 4-1 defeat of promotion rivals Stevenage.
