Manager Steve Davis believes Crewe Alexandra are perfectly capable of closing the gap at the bottom of League One.

The Railwaymen crashed to a 5-0 home defeat to Coventry City at the weekend and are currently six points from immediate safety.

“I think we can claw that back – maybe more,” Davis told BBC Radio Stoke. “It’s up to all of us – I’ve got players who do put in good performances but they also make mistakes.”

Due to their non-involvement in the FA Cup third round this weekend, Crewe are now without a game until visiting Swindon Town on 16th January.

“We’ll look at everything – the players who are not in the team and see if there’s a chance of a change,” Davis promised. “There won’t be many days off – I did tell the players they’d have to earn them but they haven’t. We’ll be working harder than ever.”
