Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is threatening changes after the heavy weekend defeat at Brentford.

‘If they can’t respond then I will make changes by moving people out and bringing people in’ – Steve Davis

Bees striker Clayton Donaldson scored twice against his former club as the hosts eventually ran out easy 5-1 winners at Griffin Park.

Davis later described it as the worst performance by the Alex under his leadership and said he was embarrassed as he apologised to supporters.

“I could see in the warm-up that they weren’t up for it and that worries me,” he told This is Staffordshire. “That was the worst performance since I’ve been here and I will not stand for it.

“There was nothing positive I could take from it,” continued Davis. “They have one chance only and if they can’t respond then I will make changes by moving people out and bringing people in.”

Donaldson netted a double in his first appearance against the Alex since leaving them at the beginning of last season. However, the 28-year-old made a point of not celebrating.

“We knew what to expect with Clayton,” Davis added. “He’s a quality player who will cause you problems if you let him – and we let him every time.”

Crewe are next in action tomorrow evening when visiting Premier League West Ham United in the Capital One Cup.
