Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis believes on loan goalkeeper Daniel Nizic should really have learnt from Ben Garratt’s earlier sending-off during the weekend FA Cup defeat to National League Eastleigh.

“He’s just watched Ben do exactly the same thing and then he’s followed it” – Steve Davis

The 20-year-old Burnley youngster charged out and brought down substitute Ross Lafayette, thus conceding the decisive penalty from which Ben
Strevens netted the winner.

Meanwhile, regular first-choice Garratt
had already seen red for tripping former Oxford United striker Yemi Odubade outside the area.

“You have to question the mentality a bit,” Davis admitted to BBC Radio Stoke. “He’s just watched Ben do exactly the same thing and then he’s followed it.

“It’s his first game and he’s been eager to get on the pitch and take his chance,” he added. “I don’t know why he’s not learnt from Ben – he almost got sent off himself. I like my goalkeepers to be in the right position to read that and get there first – or stay on the line.”
