Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis revealed he was interviewed for the recent vacancy at Burnley – but only for the experience.

“It was never my intention to leave here at all” – Steve Davis

Davis was allowed permission to speak to his former club in their search for a successor to Eddie Howe following his surprise return to AFC Bournemouth.

The 47-year-old was subsequently interviewed for the role with the Championship outfit but added it was never actually his intention to depart Gresty Road.

However, Burnley eventually settled on former Watford boss Sean Dyche as the right man to take them forward.

“I was given permission by the club to go and meet them,” Davis explained to Crewe’s official website. “I went for the experience more than anything. It was good and I enjoyed the experience.

“It was never my intention to leave here at all. I have always said that I will try and take Crewe as far as I can and I am very happy here,” he added. “I wasn’t going to go back on my word because I feel as though I am at the right club at the right stage of my career.”
