Crewe Alexandra won’t be continuing their interest in former loan midfielder Jamie Lowry after his contract expired at Chesterfield.

Alex had been hoping to sign the 25-year-old until the deal was placed on hold after his medical revealed concerns over a recent knee problem.

Lowry is instead now hoping to earn himself a move to League Two side Plymouth Argyle.

“It has been unfortunate with Jamie. We wanted him here with us in pre-season where he could prove his fitness,” Alex boss Steve Davis confirmed to This is Staffordshire. “But we didn’t want to stand in his way if he could get more security elsewhere.

“He has had some interest from a League Two club and I hope it goes well for him,” he added. “We almost agreed with him to come, but we move on to the next one.”
