Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is concerned by the number of first-year referees officiating their games this season.

“I’d rather have someone with a bit more experience for a game of this nature” – Steve Davis

It follows another contentious penalty award against his side in their 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth earlier this week, when Mathias Pogba was penalised for an innocuous challenge on Cherries forward Matt Ritchie.

“I spoke to the main referees’ assessor about it,” Davis told BBC Stoke. “They do send them here more than anywhere else. He did admit to that but I’ve asked them not to send as many.

“I don’t mind the odd one or two,” he added. “But I’d rather they didn’t if they’re going to perform like that. I’d rather have someone with a bit more experience for a game of this nature.”
