Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis hopes to complete a deal for former Northampton Town midfielder Abdul Osman.

The 25-year-old was again influential as Alex eased to a 3-0 victory at Quorn last night with goals by Mathias Pogba, Brendan Daniels and Harry Clayton.

“We’re going to talk to his agent today and decide what we are going to do,” Davis told This is Staffordshire. “We’ve had a look at Abdul and he’s the final central midfield player we are looking for. He is steady and gives us something different. We now have to see what we can do in terms of finances.”

Meanwhile, Davis remains pleased with the progress made so far during pre-season: “It’s early in pre-season – we’ve only been back a week – and I haven’t expected too much from the players,” he added. “It’s all about settling the new players in and getting the players into good habits.”

Midfielder Luke Murphy missed out on the latest effort with a slight knee injury but should be available later this week.
