Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is challenging his squad to make a return visit to Wembley this season.

“Crewe have never won this and that’s the challenge I’ve thrown out to them” – Steve Davis

The Alex famously defeated Cheltenham Town in their play-off final to secure themselves a coveted promotion place back in May.

And following a 2-1 victory at Shrewsbury Town only last week, Crewe next boast home advantage against Doncaster Rovers in the Northern Section quarter-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

“Crewe have never won this and that’s the challenge I’ve thrown out to them,” Davis told BBC Radio Stoke. “It’s another trip to Wembley. A great stage. The players should want that.

“It’s a competition that you’ve got a chance in as there are no big clubs involved,” he reasoned. “We could have a really good run in it.”
