Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has warned the club won’t be held to ransom by goalkeeper Alan Martin.

“He’s not going to hold the club to ransom” – Steve Davis

The 23-year-old former Scottish Under-21 international is still to make a final decision on the eighteen-month contract extension offered to him three weeks ago.

That follows him only being given a short-term deal in the summer – which could actually see him departing the club for nothing in the New Year.

“There is a danger he could go but he’s not going to hold the club to ransom,” Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “He has done exceptionally well, better than we thought, and that’s why I offered him a contract to the end of next season.

“We were going to offer him a shorter one but I felt he deserved more,” he continued. “For me it is an easy decision. I think he is happy here, he has been playing well in League One and you’d think he’d want to commit himself to the club.”
