Manager Steve Davis is hopeful that Luke Murphy will copy the example of Adam Dugdale and sign a long-term deal with the club.

“We’ve offered him a good deal and it’s what he’s deserved” – Steve Davis

Dugdale, 24, agreed an extension taking him until 2015 earlier this week and Davis wants Murphy to follow suit. He has already been offered new terms on his current deal which is set to expire at the end of this season.

Newly-appointed Crewe skipper Ashley Westwood had previously extended his own agreement until 2014.

“I’ve spoken to Luke and we are waiting a decision from him. We’ve offered him a good deal and it’s what he’s deserved for his contribution to the club,” Davis explained to This is Staffordshire. “We will be delighted if and when he signs.

“We have already improved Ashley Westwood’s contract. He’s playing the best he has ever played and now he has been made captain he has that extra responsibility,” he added. “He will attract interest, as they all will, but we look after our own players who have got us where we are.”
