Manager Steve Davis was naturally delighted at the decision of Luke Murphy to extend his stay with the club.

“He is going to a main cog for our midfield for us now” – Steve Davis

The Alex skipper agreed a new two-year contract yesterday and now remains at Gresty Road until at least the summer of 2014.

Murphy, 22, has actually been with the club since the age of seven and signed his first professional deal just over four years ago. He is now close to almost 150 senior games for the Railwaymen.

“Murph is a good lad and I am really pleased that he has signed an extension to his deal,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “He is going to a main cog for our midfield for us now and it is important to keep those players in your squad for the future of the club.”
