Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis was pleased with the performance of full debutant Vadaine Oliver during the 2-1 victory against Tranmere Rovers.

“He can improve his all round game and it will be up to us to tidy his game up” – Steve Davis

The 21-year-old was handed a first start following three successive substitute appearances since arriving from Lincoln City in the summer. Oliver had already shown evidence of his goal-threat during pre-season.

“Vadaine worked very hard and he occupied their centre halves,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “He won his fair share of flick-ons and I thought he was a handful.

“He is still only 21 and is still learning the game. We know that he is going to be a threat in the air and we will get him in the opposition box and running in behind,” he added. “He can improve his all round game and it will be up to us to tidy his game up.”
