Manager Steve Davis praised the battling qualities of his Crewe Alexandra side following their 1-0 defeat of Peterborough United at Gresty Road.

“I was really encouraged with the 1-0 because we haven’t been able to sustain results over the past” – Steve Davis

Recalled striker Marcus Haber netted the winner from a first-half penalty as the visitors eventually finished with nine-men following the dismissals of Michael Bostwick and Jack Baldwin.

The Railwaymen’s third successive victory now finds them rising two places off the foot of the table.

“Results are very important to us at the moment,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “I was really encouraged with the 1-0 because we haven’t been able to sustain results over the past so going two games winning and then managing the third one is great credit to the players.

“They worked very hard to this position and it elevates us up, it’s very very close down there now,” he added. “It’s amazing what a couple of weeks does in football, it can change so quickly.”
