Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis expects striker Max Clayton to really come of age in League One this season.

The England youth international turns eighteen today and is seen as the ideal replacement for Nick Powell following his recent dream £5m move to Manchester United.

However, Davis also wants fellow forwards AJ Leitch-Smith and Byron Webster to pick up their own goal ratio after nine and ten goals
respectively last season – aided by in-form recent recruit Mathias Pogba.

“The forwards are all capable of scoring goals in League One,” Davis told This is Staffordshire. “Max is different from the others in terms of his runs and quick feet, while Mathias is more powerful and a handful for defenders. He will create space for the rest.

“Byron and AJ need to improve their tallies on last season, and they all need to get into double figures if possible.”
