Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he couldn’t fault the effort of his players after they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Stevenage at Gresty Road.

“I thought we were the better side in the first half and thought we had enough chances to have been further ahead” – Steve Davis

The Alex were unable to build upon Chuks Aneke’s first-half opener as their opponents scored twice in quick succession following the break. However, Davis believes his side were on balance still well worthy of a point.

“I thought that up to their equalising goal, we were fairly in control of the game in the first half,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “I thought we were the better side in the first half and thought we had enough chances to have been further ahead than we were at the interval.

“So we are disappointed to lose the game in the end and the players are very down,” he added. “That is good to see because they have great belief and expect to get something from every game.”
