Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis was pleased to see centre-back Mark Ellis recover from his recent own-goal against Coventry City.

“Mark is a winner, who rolls his sleeves up and plays with his heart” – Steve Davis

The former Torquay United defender headed past his own keeper late on in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area final second-leg but it didn’t prove too costly as his colleagues still accounted for the Sky Blues.

Three days later and Ellis was again on target against the same opposition, but this time at the right end of the pitch as the Alex once more prevailed in their league meeting at the Ricoh Arena.

“Mark is a winner, who rolls his sleeves up and plays with his heart – sometimes more than his head,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “I would like him to play more with his head at times but that real fight is a good ingredient to have. That is why we brought him to the club from Torquay. He is still only 24 and still improving.”
