Manager Steve Davis faces a big decision over a replacement for outgoing goalkeeper Steve Phillips.

“We have two options really when it comes to a goalkeeper” – Steve Davis

The 36-year-old was also the club’s main goalkeeping coach and his departure leaves only Ben Garratt as recognised shot-stopper following Alan Martin leaving in January.

Davis must decide whether to recruit an experienced keeper who can also take coaching responsibilities or a younger reserve alongside a specialist coach.

“We have two options really when it comes to a goalkeeper. We could look to appoint another one like Steve, who can coach but who can also play,” he told Crewe’s official website. “The other option would be to appoint a goalkeeping coach and bring in another young goalkeeper to offer Ben that competition he will need.”
