Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis won’t be relying on another loan signing if the parent club insist on their player starting every game.

“If you get someone in, you have to play them and I don’t like that scenario” – Steve Davis

That was the scenario with Finnish striker Lauri Dalla Valle, who returned to Fulham last week after the Cottagers inserted a clause in his loan agreement stating he must be played irrespective of form.

“The problem is, if you get someone in, you have to play them and I don’t like that scenario,” Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “If they are not playing well I want to leave them out. It was a written agreement with Dalla Valle.

“Part of educating these players is that they have to earn their place,” he pointed out. “Luckily Lauri did well but a third month may have presented a problem, so I let him go.”

Dalla Valle, 21, netted five times in a dozen games during his stay at Gresty Road.
