Dario Would Like Martin To Stay

The club look set to offer trialist goalkeeper Alan Martin a contract at Gresty Road after featuring in two friendlies this summer.

The former Leeds stopper featured in the 4-0 win over Congleton last Monday aswell as in the second half of yesterday’s 2-1 win over Wolves.

Having looked steady in both games, Martin is now in line for a contract as back up to number one keeper Steve Phillips for the new season.

Speaking after yesterday’s Wolves friendly, Dario told BBC Radio Stoke that he’d be happy to keep Martin if the keeper himself would like to stay:

‘I’ll be happy with him if he’s happy to stay.

‘He got in a muddle once with Carl Martin coming off his line but I don’t know a goalkeeper who doesn’t have trouble coming off his line.

‘He’s a good shot stopper in training, there’s no doubt about that.’

The 22 year old has previously played for Leeds, Motherwell and Ayr, as well as loan spells at Barrow and Accrington. He also has experience in the Scotland U-21’s. He left Ayr United earlier this summer after rejecting a new contract in order to return to full time football.
