Dario Rues Missed Chances

After taking a 2-0 lead and missing a whole host of clear cut chances the Alex had to settle for a point at Northampton on Saturday.

Clayton Donaldson’s first of the season and a own goal by Cobblers defender John Johnson really put the Alex in cruise control in the first half. Despite the likes of Grant, Zola and Donaldson missing some glorious chances all signs pointed to Crewe wrapping up a 5th away win of the season.

But the Alex defence were once again to be the talking point of the day. Mat Mitchel-King’s poor marking of Northampton striker Adebayo Akinfenwa was costly as two goals in ten minutes lost the Alex two vital points.

It leaves a frustrated Dario with just two wins in eight games since returning to the managers job in October. It’s not getting the man from Milan down however with Dario naturally taking the positives out of the game.

Speaking to CreweAlex.net;

‘I think there were some real positives to take from it. The football was good, especially in the first half and I thought Tootle was terrific on his debut. He was fine and that is the fun of managing at Crewe.

‘There is no point me going in and moaning and groaning at them. I went in and said well done because we have come away from home, played well and got an away point.

‘I thought we played some terrific football in the first half and could have scored five or six goals. We created some great chances and didn’t convert them but we know what the problem is. We have to improve in both penalty areas. I am a player improvement coach so that is what I will do.’

Dario now prepares the side for the visit of league new boys Burton Albion this Tuesday night at Gresty Road.
