Dario Linked With Celtic Role

Dario Gradi has bizarrely been linked with a move to Glasgow Celtic to work with former Alex midfielder Neil Lennon.

Various newspapers report that Celtic may look to hire Dario as a Technical Director to work alongside Lennon, who looks set to be named Celtic boss this week.

Former Juventus boss Giovanni Trapattoni has already turned down the role whilst former Leeds manager Howard Wilkinson is also rumoured to be in the frame

Needless to say; this story seems highly unlikely – and then some. After 27 years with the club, the chance of Dario leaving for even the biggest of jobs has passed and it’s been some years since he was even linked with another club, let alone be offered another job.

Turning 70 next year, Dario has long been all things Crewe Alexandra. After a brief spell in ‘retirement’, he is back overseeing everything from the academy to the first team and, despite fans pleas, not even the board of directors have the guts to give him orders.

With the proposed Celtic role likely to mean a pay cut, less security and certain to mean the end of his association with Crewe Alexandra; we can safely bin this rumour instantly.

It’s more than likely no more than lazy journalism, picking the one man suited to working alongside Neil Lennon who isn’t Martin O’Neill.

Unless they got the wrong end of the stick and Dario is actually to be named Technical Director with Lennon as manager…. at Crewe. Oh we can dream.
