Dabbers Re-Sign Jaaskelainen On Loan

|

Nantwich Town have confirmed that they have signed goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen on another month-long loan, their official site has announced, as competition for their regular first-choice keeper Fabian Spiess.

This is the third spell that Jaaskelainen will have had with the Dabbers over the past couple of seasons, one that saw him help them to the FA Cup 1st Round Proper last season and the other at the start of this season, and he has also spent time on loan at Loughborough Dynamo, Buxton and Chester FC since signing for the Alex in the summer of 2017.

How good is this move for each party?

It’s a good move for everyone. Nantwich gets a keeper that is familiar to the football that they play, Will gains more experience playing in senior football and Crewe have all 3 of their contracted senior keepers playing (even if Dave Richards is only currently playing Under-23s football).

It would have been nice to see him play for a team in the tier above but it’s especially hard for goalkeepers to gain experience when they are young at a decent level because there is only one goalkeeper in a team at any one time whereas it is easier to give outfield players game-time even if they are out of position.
