Crewe Alexandra’s interest in the FA Cup was ended for another season after Ryan Flynn scored a goal in each half for Sheffield United in their first round replay at Bramall Lane.

Flynn scrambled the hosts in front from a short corner on nineteen minutes and then secured the victory with a composed finish during the later exchanges.

Blades goalkeeper Mark Howard had earlier produced a fine double-save from youngsters George Cooper and Callum Saunders, while Brad Inman struck against the foot of a post.

However, opposite number Ben Garratt was required to parry from Chris Basham’s long-range strike and also turn aside a Stefan Scougall header.

Nigel Clough’s charges next host Plymouth Argyle in the second round having gone all the way to the semi-final last season until losing to Hull City.
