Gillingham pushed Crewe Alexandra further into relegation trouble with a 3-0 victory at the Priestfield Stadium.

The hosts took an early lead through Dominic Samuel, whose second-half effort onto the woodwork then deflected in off Jon Guthrie to double their advantage.

Josh Wright added a third goal in stoppage time to leave the visitors seven points from safety.

Doug Loft and Samuel both saw early attempts for the home side before the latter nodded in after Luke Norris helped back Jermaine McGlashan’s twelfth-minute delivery.

Goalscorer Samuel next headed another opportunity wide and Zoumana Bakayogo struck a twenty-yard effort onto the crossbar at the other end.

George Williams tested Ben Garratt following the restart while George Cooper had a couple of replying efforts and Tom Hitchcock scuffed wide.

But when Samuel fired onto the crossbar in the 61st minute the ball struck the unfortunate Guthrie and diverted into his own net.

Both Cooper and substitute Billy Bingham tried responses and Marcus Haber also had an effort ruled out, while home replacement Jake Hessenthaler proved too high.

However, McGlashan set up Wright to complete the scoring via an upright right at the end of the contest.
