Crewe Alexandra came away with a creditable scoreless draw against high-flying Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

Goalkeeper Ben Garratt made a number of decent stops for the visitors while Mark Duffy struck a late free-kick onto the woodwork.

The Railwaymen were under early pressure with Garratt parrying Robbie Weir’s firm drive and Duffy lifting too high.

Home forward Lucas Akins later shot directly at Garratt while Nasser El Khayati was similarly denied following the break.

Alex were limited as an attacking threat although James Jones saw an effort charged down and fellow substitute Ryan Colclough struck over.

In between, Brad Inman was only halted by Albion’s onrushing keeper Jon McLaughlin from a short back-pass.

However, the Brewers went close in the final minute with Duffy only being kept out by the underside of the crossbar.
