Crewe Alexandra are still rooted to the bottom of the table following a fifth straight defeat at Gillingham.

Bradley Dack gave the home side an eighteenth-minute lead when curling in a left-footed shot.

Cody McDonald added a rather fortunate second right on the stroke of half-time when beating the offside trap and seeing his effort loop into the net after Ben Garratt had initially blocked.

The Gills were always in the ascendancy and Garratt was required to save from both McDonald and Danny Kedwell while John Egan headed over a Jake Hessenthaler corner.

Home keeper Stephen Bywater was hardly tested by Billy Waters’ tame effort and a Marcus Haber header.

And Gillingham could have enjoyed an even clearer margin of victory as the lively Jermaine McGlashan headed against an upright in added time.
