Crewe have completed the signing of Scott McManus, a former Manchester United youngster who has just had a trial at Championship side Nottingham Forest.

McManus was only semi-pro before signing at Gresty Road, and operates on the left side of the defence.

The young defender says he is a player that likes to push forward up the wing and create chances for the team and considers himself a good athlete.

Scott McManus started out at Manchester United as a youngster but dropped out of the game after being released. He was then spotted around 6 weeks ago by Curzon Ashton and has since had a trial at Nottingham Forest.

At 19 Scott still has a lot to learn and will take a while before he`s ready to push Billy Jones for a spot in the team, but has 2 years to prove his worth.

Has Holland broken the rule about not signing anybody who is not going to come in and improve the defence immediately?

Scott Mcmanus has the mind and the talent to boost any club. Natural born athlete worth any coach’s attention.

Nurture this guy as a footballer and an athlete, and he will be a real asset to the club he plays for.

Any doubts of fiddling with defence? don’t be daft.. 3 words: pragmatic; youth; talent.
