Veteran defender Neil Cox has joined Crewe on a two-year deal. The 34-year old defender was released by Cardiff at the end of last season, and has since been linked with a return to his hometown club Scunthorpe. However, Dario Gradi has been in talks with the defender for around a week now and becomes Crewe’s second signing of the day.

Cox made 29 appearances for Cardiff last season having joined on a free transfer form Watford, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists. The 6’0 defender has also played for Bolton, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Scunthorpe. During the course of his career, various clubs have spent a total of £3.4m on the Englishman, who played 6 times for England U21s. Cox has made 541 appearances during his career, including 21 in the Premiership. During that time, Cox has bagged 40 goals in 541 appearances, including 21 appearances in the top-flight.
