Crewe are hoping to make Clayton Donaldson a Crewe Alex player by the start of next week. The Hibs striker seems to have agreed to the move south and Holland now hopes it’ll be done and dusted after the weekend.

Holland told the official site: ‘We have made significant progress with the player and we hope to announce something positive after the weekend.’

The six figure deal has dragged on for a couple of weeks with unfounded rumours that Donaldson had rejected Crewe being rebuffed in the last week.

Donaldson arrives from Hibs but he made his name at York City, where he bagged 42 goals in 86 appearances. He signed for Hibs 12 months ago but it was as early as January that he was linked with an exit from Easter Road. After just 18 games and five goals it looks certain he will become a Crewe player next week.
