Vital Crewe believes that former Northampton centre back Mark Hughes is in Gudjon’s sights. It’s thought that Thordarson is hoping to scupper Accrington Stanley’s bid to sign defender Hughes this week.

Hughes has recently rejected the offer of a new contract at Northampton despite over 90 appearances in just two years at the Cobblers.

The 22 year old is currently training with Accrington Stanely at their training camp in Colchester with an offer on the table from the Lancashire club, however Gudjon could be about to gazump them with an offer to be in the heart of the Alex defence next season.

Liverpool born Hughes was a product of Everton’s academy, making one appearance for the Everton first team, before moving to Northampton in 2007. He’s been virtually ever present in the Cobblers side before turning down a new deal.

Interesting. Hope this one turns out to be true – Northampton fans seem to rate him.

You win some you lose some. Would have been a brilliant signing but then when wouldn’t most League One players?
