Crewe Alexandra completed an excellent 3-2 victory at Colchester United to move four points above the relegation zone.

Recent signing Chris Porter put the hosts in front on the stroke of half-time but the visitors rallied superbly after the break.

Youngster James Jones levelled midway through the second-half and Nicky Ajose soon added another, before Anthony Grant made it 3-1 during a devastating fourteen-minute spell.

Substitute Jack Marriott provided a reply with six minutes remaining but the visitors kept their advantage.

Former Sheffield United striker Porter went close early for the home side while Jamie Ness was narrowly wide at the other end.

But the Alex were behind when Porter drove home from the edge of the area after receiving from Matthew Briggs.

Alex’s Lauri Dalla Valle and Jones went close following the break before the former supplied Jones to equalise after decent work by Ajose.

And the on loan Leeds United forward needed no second invitation from Grant’s pass to move the visitors in front five minutes later – Ajose’s sixth goal in ten appearances.

That advantage was soon increased by Grant’s low drive, which in the end proved decisive when Marriott hit a late reply.
