Crewe Alexandra are readying themselves for an improved bid from Premier League Swansea City for skipper Ashley Westwood.

“If the amount of money offered is acceptable we don’t stand in a player’s way” – Steve Davis

The 22-year-old was only recently appointed skipper at Gresty Road but, according to reports, has already been the subject of an unsuccessful £500,000 bid from the South Wales club.

And now recently-appointed Swans chief Michael Laudrup was expected to come back in with an improved offer ahead of the transfer window closing on Friday evening.

“I know there are clubs watching him and all of our players,” Alex boss Steve Davis admitted to the Crewe Chronicle. “If the amount of money offered is acceptable we don’t stand in a player’s way. Hopefully we wo’nt lose anyone before the deadline but you never know what will happen.”
