Crewe Alexandra continue to head in the right direction after goals from Nicky Ajose and Marcus Haber saw them defeating Fleetwood Town 2-0 at Gresty Road.

On loan striker Ajose netted for the third successive game when racing onto Jamie Ness’ pass just prior to the break.

Goalscorer Ajose then crossed for Haber to head a second goal on the hour – with a fifth win in their last seven games raising the Alex to seventeenth in the table.

Antoni Sarcevic forced an early stop from distance for home goalkeeper Ben Garratt while Ollie Turton instantly headed over a Greg Leigh cross at the other end.

A rare slip from Alan Tate then let in Sarcevic again, but Garratt saved low – and he also turned Liam McAlinden’s drive away from his top corner.

Midfielder Ness soon tested visiting goalkeeper Chris Maxwell from a sharp angle, while Garratt denied David Ball at the other end.

The Railwaymen forged in front three minutes before the break with Ajose collecting Ness’ pass and confidently registering his ninth goal in twelve starts.

Crewe duly added a second after the interval when Ness’ superb through ball released the initially stumbling Ajose to cross for Haber to firmly head in at the far post.

Ajose could have added a third goal when breaking away and only being thwarted by the oncoming Maxwell, while replying effort from McAlinden, Josh Morris and Connor McLaughlin failed to pose too much threat.
