Crewe Alexandra moved off the bottom of the table with a second successive victory against Oldham Athletic.

On loan midfielder Adam King proved the difference between the sides when claiming the winner midway through the opening half.

The Latics had an early opportunity with Brian Wilson heading Mark Yeates’ free-kick wide from close in .

But it was the hosts going in front as newcomer Semi Ajayi’s free-kick was knocked across by Ben Nugent for King to half-volley his fifth goal of the campaign.

Returning striker Ryan Lowe almost had another when curling narrowly wide of the far post before teenage midfielder James Jones twice threatened after the interval.

Substitute Ryan Wintle also had a late chance but his effort was too high as it cleared the target.
