After failing to capture Max Gradel and tie up a deal for Damian Spencer earlier this week, Crewe have been dealt a third blow after failing to sign Derby County’s Lee Holmes.

Holmes, a winger, today signed for Walsall on loan till the end of the season having rejected a move to Gresty Road.

Steve Holland said there was a lot of interest in the 20 year old:

‘We inquired about Gradel, but knew we faced competition from Walsall, Tranmere and Millwall for the other winger.’
