Crewe Make Optimistic Mellor Move?

Crewe look set to make an optimistic enquiry about the availibity of Liverpool striker Neil Mellor. Crewe’s attacking options are somewhat limited, especially for the role of the big striker. Gareth Taylor’s departure has left Dario with just Pavol Suhaj and Mat Bailey as competition for Michael Higdon, with none of the three impressing so far in the pre-season.

A move for Mellor would be hugely optimistic, with the striker likely to attract the attention of Premiership and Championship clubs. Mellor spent the latter half of last season on loan with Premiership side Wigan, where he scored 1 goal in 4 games, and made a particularly impressive debut. However, that loan spell was cut short by a knee injury.

Meanwhile, one of Crewe’s former targets David Graham has joined Bradford on a six-month loan deal. Several clubs were chasing the Sheffield Wednesday striker, with Blackpool having a six-figure bid accepted. Whilst Graham would not have been the big striker that Crewe are looking for, his goalscoring record at this level is impressive, though it is believed that Dario Gradi has been put off by his failure to perform at Championship level.
