Crewe are reportedly keen on signing Hull striker Ben Burgess. The 6’3 striker is believed to have impressed Crewe’s scouts, who continue to search feverishly for a big striker.

The striker’s future at Hull looked in doubt at the beginning of the summer as former manager Peter Taylor looked to offload one or two of his strike force. However, new boss Phil Parkinson has already seen Billy Paynter depart to Southend, and has stated that Burgess will not be leaving the club. Burgess has been a substitute in both of Hull’s league games so far.

The 24-year old began his career at Blackburn, making 3 appearances for the club. However, a £400,000 move to Stockport ensued in 2002, after loan spells at Australian side Northern Spirit and Brentford. Burgess failed to impress at Stockport and the Irishman was a £100,000 signing for Hull in 2003, and has scored 24 goals in 57 starts for the Tigers. However, injuries have restricted the striker’s progress in recent seasons.

Brighton were linked with the striker earlier in the summer, and were even reported to have made a bid for the striker, which was apparently rejected by Hull.

Didn’t know you were interested – I think most us us would tell you you can have him: he’d be good for you but isn’t Championship standard.
