Crewe have offered Bury defender Ryan Cresswell a move to Gresty Road as Dario looks to sure up the defence.

Cresswell is thought to have held talks with Dario at Reaseheath training ground this week and has gone away to mull over an offer from the Alex.

Currently out of contract at Bury, the 22 year old still has an offer on the table from the Shakers as well as being linked with a move to his home town club Rotherham. His age, however, would mean Bury would be due a compensation package should he move.

Starting out at Sheff Utd, the powerful defender moved to Bury in 2008 on a two year contract. He’s gone on to make over 50 appearances for the Shakers and is rated as one of the better defenders of League Two.

After the departures of Danny O’Donnell and Harry Worley at Gresty Road, the central defence area has been number one concern for Dario. Despite being linked with Peterborough’s Exodus Geohaghon recently, Cresswell seems to have come out top of the wish list after extensive scouting from Dario, assistant manager Steve Davis and coach-cum-chief scout Neil Baker.

Today Dario confirmed to CreweAlex.net that he had spoken to a defender, thought to be Cresswell, who was impressed with the facilities at Reaseheath:

‘We have spoken to a centre-half and the talks went well. We are just waiting to hear back from him now. He was very impressed with the place and we will have to wait and see what he decides.

‘We are making progress in that department and narrowed it down to this one. He will have as long as he wants to make his mind up, but then something better could come along, so that is how it works

‘There will be a fee involved but we don’t see that as a main problem.’
