Ryan Colclough’s decisive second-half strike finally earned Crewe Alexandra their first home win of the season at the expense of Sheffield United.

His 71st minute effort proved the difference between the two sides and meant a first success in fifteen games at Gresty Road.

Goalkeeper Ben Garratt fended off a 25-yard drive from Jose Baxter during the opening half.

Meanwhile, Marcus Haber and Colclough both threatened at the other end before United keeper Mark Howard denied the winger after the break.

However, Colclough seized upon a headed clearance after an Ollie Turton cross and finished low from the edge of the area with just under twenty minutes remaining.

Blades’ Dean Hammond headed a late opportunity over but their opponents were not to be denied a long-awaited triumph.
