Reports in Cambridge suggest that Crewe have had a bid turned down for Cambridge United striker Scott Rendell.

Cambridge United confirmed tonight that they have turned down a bid for the striker from an unnamed Football League club, but it is widely thought in Cambridge that the bid received was from Crewe.

The apparent bid wouldn’t come as a shock after the Alex missed out on Forest Green Rovers striker Stuart Fleetwood last week. Rendell also fits the bill as to what the Alex are looking for, at 6ft 1in he is described as a target man with good link up play.

The 21 year old has previously played for Crawley before joining Cambridge in the summer and so far this season has 22 goals in 27 starts for United.

If Crewe have indeed had a bid rejected then it’ll be interesting to see if it is improved. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, the pressure is on for Steve Holland to find the right fix for the team or he faces the wrath of the Alex faithful.
