Crewe Alexandra are unbeaten in their last three away games but will expect a difficult challenge against a recently improved Hartlepool United side at Victoria Park on Tuesday evening.

“Hartlepool are on a little run, so it will be a tough game up there” – Steve Davis

Defender Matt Tootle has recovered from an ankle injury while both striker AJ Leitch-Smith and on loan midfielder Chuks Aneke will be hoping for recalls after missing out in the weekend victory at Coventry City.

“Hartlepool are on a little run, so it will be a tough game up there,” Crewe boss Steve Davis told BBC Radio Stoke. “With the amount of games we have coming up in a short space of time, recovery times will be important. We will be organising the training to make sure that the recovery is spot on.”

The hosts are currently on an unbeaten sequence of six games, winning four of them, to offer themselves at least some hope of completing what still appears an unlikely escape from relegation. Despite their recent vast improvement, United remain eight points from safety.

Those efforts could see them unchanged for the seventh consecutive game, however, although on loan Middlesbrough striker Charlie Wyke must recover after falling ill during their weekend 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United.
